SEC Dropped Crypto Lawsuits to Protect Its Credibility, Uyeda Says

SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda said the agency abandoned several crypto enforcement cases in early 2025 because its planned policy reversal could have left government lawyers defending positions the commission no longer supported. Speaking at the Psaros Center’s Financial Markets Quality Conference, Uyeda also questioned whether some actions were firmly grounded in law. The dismissed cases included proceedings involving Kraken, Ripple and Coinbase during his stint as acting chair.

Dystopia Labs Founder Hsin-Ju Chuang Dies at 37

Hsin-Ju Chuang, founder of Dystopia Labs and a former partner at crypto venture firm Hack VC, has died at 37, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner. She was pronounced dead after officers responded to Interstate 15 in California on Aug. 24; authorities have not disclosed a cause. Chuang previously led growth at Stellar and Solana before moving into venture capital.

Trump Discloses Two July Purchases of Strategy Shares

A US ethics filing released Tuesday shows President Donald Trump bought between $50,001 and $100,000 of Strategy shares on July 27, after acquiring $1,001 to $15,000 three days earlier. The Bitcoin-treasury company was his largest disclosed crypto-linked purchase in July. The filing also lists a Coinbase share purchase and sales of stakes in miners MARA Holdings and CleanSpark.

Visa Survey Links Stablecoin Interest to Stronger Consumer Safeguards

A Visa survey of 2,192 US consumers found stated willingness to use stablecoins could rise from 36% to 56% if bank-level fraud protection and deposit insurance were available. Morning Consult conducted the research in February and March. Visa also found adoption intent reached 45% when stablecoins were offered by an established financial provider. The GENIUS Act is expected to take effect in January 2027, but does not provide FDIC insurance or explicit fraud protection.

Bitwise Lists Europe’s First LIT-Tracking ETP on Xetra

Bitwise has launched the Bitwise Lighter Staking ETP on Deutsche Börse Xetra, giving European brokerage clients exposure to LIT without holding the token directly. The product is fully backed by LIT in cold storage and charges a 0.85% annual fee. Despite its name, it will not earn staking rewards until assets under management reach a level Bitwise considers operationally efficient.

NYSE and Blockchain.com Map Out Tokenized US Stock Access

Blockchain.com and the New York Stock Exchange have signed a memorandum of understanding that could bring tokenized US-listed shares and ETFs to Blockchain.com users through NYSE’s planned digital trading venue. The proposal remains subject to regulatory approval. The companies also plan to exchange market data: ICE Data Services would distribute Blockchain.com crypto analytics, while Blockchain.com would integrate selected ICE and NYSE feeds into its platform.

Bitcoin Slips Below $84K as Long Liquidations Reach $280M

Bitcoin briefly slid below $84,000 after failing to clear $87,000, triggering about $280 million in long liquidations over four hours, according to CoinGlass data cited by Cointelegraph. Analysts identified $82,000 as an important support area if the range breaks lower. CryptoQuant said 30-day cumulative spot demand remained negative, even as futures demand and overall demand showed modest improvement.
